The Power of a Juice Cleanse: How Fasting, Faith, and Whole Foods Reset Your Mind and Body
December 1st, I started my 21 day juice fast.
This is my second attempt this year at a journey of this length. Earlier in the year, I reached almost 14 days with a small break in between the two weeks I completed. I was proud, because it was the longest I had ever gone. But I did not complete the full 21 days, and that stayed with me.
When I talked to friends and family about it, everyone praised my discipline. Most people never attempt a fast at all, especially one that lasts beyond a few days. Recent reports suggest that roughly one quarter of consumers have tried some type of juice cleanse or detox program, and among adults actively trying to manage their weight, about one in five have experimented with a “cleanse” at some point. Still, very few push themselves into a structured, multi week juice recharge. So making it almost 14 days truly is something to celebrate.
But the assignment on my heart was 21 days, not 14. And when God calls you to finish a thing, you feel it.
Before we go further, let me be clear.
You will see the words fasting and cleansing here because those are the terms people search for when they are researching health, wellness, fasts, and juice cleanses. But after we set that context, I will use the word recharge, because that is what I truly believe this is. A recharge for your body, your mind, and your spirit.
Why I Call It a Recharge, Not Just a Fast
Some experts argue that consuming only fresh pressed juices is not technically “fasting,” and I understand that perspective. But for me, the discipline, the spiritual intimacy, the mental clarity, and the emotional reset are deeply aligned with what many people experience through fasting.
When we strip away:
- Highly processed foods
- Artificial sugars
- Heavy, fried meals
- Mood altering beverages
And instead flood the body with raw, cold pressed juices made with whole fruits and vegetables, we are:
- Rebooting the digestive system
- Reducing inflammation
- Supporting blood sugar balance
- Supporting liver and kidney function
- Improving energy production
- Creating the conditions for mental clarity
Many of my best ideas have been the fruit of a quality juice recharge. In my corporate life, when I led global programs, deep data reviews, and creative problem solving at scale, I needed a sharp mind. Now as a full time entrepreneur, building a business that requires strategy, creativity, courage, and heart, clarity is even more important.
A recharge helps me think clearly, move intentionally, and hear God and my own inner voice more distinctly.
My customers echo this. They share that:
- Their sleep improves
- Their energy levels increase
- Their skin takes on a noticeable glow
- Their bloating decreases
- Their thoughts feel clearer and lighter
I have experienced all of this firsthand. I am able to regulate not just my mood, but the way I process information. I feel grounded, energized, and much more intentional in my actions. I feel energy without the jittery caffeine spike that can make us impulsive instead of present.
What Processed Foods and Sugars Do to Your Mind and Energy
We cannot talk about fasting, cleansing, or recharging without talking about processed foods and sugar. A growing body of research connects diets high in processed food and added sugar with:
- Higher rates of depression and anxiety
- Chronic fatigue and brain fog
- More inflammation in the body
- Greater risk for obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke
Studies show that diets high in ultra processed foods are associated with increased odds of depressive symptoms, lower perceived mental wellbeing, and more emotional instability. Excess added sugar causes rapid blood sugar spikes and crashes, which often show up as irritability, low energy, poor concentration, and cravings that keep us on a mental roller coaster.
In contrast, diets rich in whole fruits and vegetables support:
- More stable energy
- Better sleep quality
- Improved cognitive function
- More balanced mood
In simple terms, the way we eat directly influences the way we think, feel, and show up in our lives.
You Do Not Have to Choose Between Eating Well and Moving Your Body
A lot of people quietly believe they have to choose:
“Either I eat better or I exercise, I can’t do both right now.”
The truth is, your body needs both.
Research shows that:
- Regular physical activity significantly lowers the risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
- When consistent movement is paired with a balanced diet that emphasizes whole foods, people see better outcomes for weight management, cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar control.
- Exercise and a nutrient dense diet together are protective for both physical health and mental health, reducing symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression, while improving cognitive performance and emotional resilience.
Nutrition fuels your ambition.
Movement activates it.
Together, they support the life you are trying to build.
Food and Emotional Health: Your Gut and Your Mind Are Talking
Your gut and your brain are constantly in conversation. A large portion of your body’s serotonin, a key mood regulating chemical, is produced in the gut. When the gut is overloaded with processed foods, sugar, and low fiber meals, digestion slows, inflammation increases, and your mood often pays the price.
This is why periods of poor eating can leave you feeling:
- Heavy emotionally
- Anxious or on edge
- Irritable and easily overwhelmed
- Less motivated and less hopeful
On the other hand, nourishing your body with fruits, vegetables, herbs, and quality hydration supports your microbiome, your hormones, and your nervous system. Clean foods make room for clearer thoughts. Clearer thoughts support better decisions. And better decisions shape the life you experience day by day.
Nature Has Always Been Medicine
Another important truth many people do not realize:
A significant share of modern medications are developed from or inspired by compounds found in plants, herbs, fruits, and vegetables. Estimates suggest that a large proportion of prescription drugs, especially in areas like oncology and cardiology, originate from natural products or their derivatives, even if they are later modified in the lab.
In other words, nature has always been medicine.
We are not claiming that juice replaces medication. But we are reminding you that fruits, vegetables, and herbs have real, measurable, medicinal properties that can support your body’s natural healing processes.
When Should You Consider a Recharge?
You may want to consider a juice based recharge or structured cleanse when:
- You need to drown out the outside noise and hear your inner thoughts more clearly
- You have been eating poorly and start to notice bloating, constipation, or irregular bowel movements
- You feel emotionally off, and you want to restore balance and reconnect with yourself
- You are in the middle of a big creative project or demanding work season and need deeper focus
- You have received unfavorable medical results that could be improved through lifestyle changes, and you feel ready to take ownership
- You want to reconnect with God, your body, and your mind in a more intentional way
A recharge is not punishment. It is an intentional pause. It is a reset. It is a way to say, “My body and my mind matter. My future matters. I matter.”
